Company Overview
Mission
Our Mission is to let people play in their Heyday.
We do this by developing and publishing innovative social games on the Heyday platform for leading social networks such as Facebook and Google+, mobile devices, and the open web. Our goal is to become the world’s trusted provider of high-quality, fun, easy-to-use social games. To achieve this goal, the company has assembled a team of experts in engineering, game design and development, graphics, animation, and music to develop a new social game concept unlike anything on the market today that enables people to relive their heyday with family, friends, however they choose. The company introduced its new social game, Retro World™, in November 2011, and plans additional content to extend the brand into new genres in subsequent releases.
History
Entertainment Games, Inc. was originally incorporated as eGames, Inc. in 1992 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania as a publisher of family-oriented, casual computer games sold primarily through retail stores. The company went public in 1995, growing into a large distributor of third-party PC game titles through major North American mass-merchant retailers. As gaming platforms grew, eGames began publishing popular casual games for the open web, Nintendo DS and Wii, and the iPhone, including The Dracula Files, Burger Island®, Burger Island 2: The Missing Ingredient, Satisfashion®, Puzzle City®, Purrfect Pet Shop®, and many others. The company now distributes third-party and proprietary game titles through retailers and its comprehensive gaming portal, egames.com.
Talent
Recognizing the rapid growth and popularity of social network games, Entertainment Games acquired Heyday Games, a producer of cross-platform social game content, in June 2011, making the company one of the only publicly traded social game companies in the market today. With the purchase of Heyday Games, Entertainment Games acquired the Heyday platform and several talented executives in the social game industry. Heyday Games’ Co-Founders Gene Mauro and F.J. Lennon became President/COO and Chief Creative Officer of eGames, respectively. The acquisition also provided eGames with a creative studio in Los Angeles and technology studio in Boston with game design and development professionals, rounding out the core team that’s creating the company’s highly-anticipated new social game.
In addition to bringing new talent into Entertainment Games, the company has amplified its talent roster by enlisting industry leaders in the creative and technical aspects of game development. In July 2011, it contracted with Creative Capers Entertainment, Inc., one of Hollywood’s leading animation studios, to help forge a unique new look, art style, and animation technique never before seen in gaming. The company also joined forces with premier game developer GameVision to provide strategic game design and development resources that will further enrich the game experience. Finally, Entertainment Games has contracted industry veteran Michael Bross, the audio director/composer who has worked on top-selling franchises including Oddworld and the Ratchet and Clank series, and Mark Goodman, XM Radio personality and one of the five original MTV VJs, to collaborate creatively on the music and audio-related elements central to the new game. Each strategic relationship will contribute to the game’s ability to provide a rich user experience unprecedented in social games.
In August 2011, after establishing its new teams and new strategic direction, the company changed its name from eGames, Inc. to Entertainment Games, Inc. reflecting its commitment to developing a broad offering of social games on the Heyday platform for the rapidly emerging social game market across all platforms – social networks, mobile, and the open web. The new name is indicative of the company’s ambitious new vision and the breadth of new market opportunities.
Market
The global market for cross-platform social games is expanding rapidly as more people use social networks and mobile devices, many discovering the addictive fun of easy-to-use on-line games which they can play with friends all over the world. The revenue associated with virtual goods purchases in such games is also on the rise, expected to exceed $2.5 billion in 2011. The 40+ demographic is among the fastest growing user groups of Internet, social networks, social games and mobile devices, and its members spend more money on-line than younger demographics. The new game from Entertainment Games will target this demographic with retro-based images, music and experiences in a highly interactive game format, setting it apart from current games on the market. This underserved demographic will enjoy the excitement of their Heyday in this easy-to-use social game, offering a whole new level of sensory imagery, engagement, and fun.
